Historical Novel Society 2019 Conference
Everything is amazing after five historical cocktails.
Hi, everyone!
This year was my first trip to the Historical Novel Society Conference. It was AMAZING!
This year’s conference was held in Maryland at National Harbor.
I signed up for the extra classes on Thursday, because I’m a total geek. Both classes I took were about combat scenes. The first class was about weapons and fighting, and the follow up as about writing the scenes realistically. Both classes were taught by the amazing Teel James Glenn. He is extremely knowledgeable, and I hope to learn more from him in the future.
On Friday, I woke up not feeling so well. Think I picked up a bug on the plane. I went to a couple of panels that morning, and they were fantastic. Then I went back to bed.
I rallied for the Hooch Through History cocktail event (because who wouldn’t rally for that), and had a great time. We had five different cocktails, and all of them were tasty. One of them was said to have prevented George Washington, and avid journal keeper, from writing in his journal for three days after he’d had a few too many. At one point during my evening, a waiter thought I was done with one of my cocktails. I think my reaction scared him, poor guy. He never tried to take another glass from me the rest of the evening.
I only went to one class on Saturday before I had to call it quits.
I deeply regret missing so much of this wonderful conference. I look forward to the next one in 2021.
Were you at the conference? If so, I’d love to know what you learned. If not, let me know if you’re thinking about catching the next one. Thanks!
